Welcome to Focht against ALS page! Jim Focht is the man behind our passion. Jim had been diagnosed in 2000 and lived for 7 years with much love and support from his family and friends, neighbors. When I first met him I was only a friend of his son before he passed in May 2007. Debby (Jims wife of 25 years) and Brad dedicated their time when not at work taking shifts to aid in his care. Jim was passionate about his Harley Davidson and his Camaro, which he would race. Jim loved the outdoors, camping and riding the trails with dirt bikes and quads. He raised two wonderful boys who share the same love. I got to marry one of his amazing sons, Brad in 2012 who has all his fathers amazing, gental spirit, kind hearted, caring attributes of Jim. Looking back I got to meet Jim during the probably not the best circumstances but I can say I knew my father-inlaw and what an amazing husband and father he was. So I want to thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal!
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
That’s why I’m walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You Have ALS” again.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But, we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
