Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS® raises funds to support those affected by ALS, such as my niece, Shelley. She is a 49 year old registered nurse who thought she was experiencing health issues related to a previous back surgery. That would have been a blessing compared to the diagnosis of ALS. She is limited to her wheelchair/bed now. Completely unable to walk. She is starting to lose her upper body strength and developing eating/Speaking issues. Her disease is progressing at a rapid rate.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
The support of the local ALS team has been a gift from God. Our family will be walking to help support others experiencing this life altering disease. Please register to walk with us or make a donation. Your help will be most appreciated.
