Thank you for helping us reach our families Walk ALS fundraising goal! The Walk ALS raises funds to support those affected with ALS, such as my niece, Shelley. She was a 49-year-old registered nurse when she was diagnosed (12/18/2023) with ALS (and not a back injury that was causing her difficulty). She came to live in Oregon with our family and what an education we received. We had NO idea what to expect. For almost a year we discovered what a horrible disease ALS is. She was dependent on help with every daily living function. We received help from the local ALS office sourcing equipment, guidance, and most of all, mental support as we tried to be strong for Shelley. She received excellent medical care from the ALS Providence Group in Portland. We are eternally grateful to the ALS Northwest for their help.
It is hard to watch a loved one die from this disease. Shelley passed away exactly one year from the day of her ALS diagnosis at the very young age of 50. She was always thankful and grateful for any assistance she received. Her spirit was and is an inspiration to us. That is why our family chooses to support Walk ALS 2024. Please help us support the great work ALS is doing my making a donation to Team Shelley. We appreciate your support!
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
The support of the local ALS team has been a gift from God. Our family will be walking to help support others experiencing this life altering disease. Please register to walk with us or make a donation. Your help will be most appreciated.
