Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS® raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
As our family has learned more about this disease over the last few months, we have heard quite a few times that ALS is not an incurable disease, but an underfunded one. There is still many years of studies, research, etc to be done, but one day there will be a cure for this disease.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
Our hope isn't to generate the funds in a single walk to cure this disease but any little bit can have a major impact and our main goal for this walk is to show Pam what an incredible group of people she has behind her and supporting her. The ALS Association (specificially the Portland-Metro Chapter) have been an incredible help and truly deserve the financial support for all the wonderful things they do.
Please do not feel any pressure to donate, but if you can we would love your support in the walk on June 4th, or even electronically via email or text. My mother is one of the strongest people I know but in the face of this disease even the strongest of us still need to know they are supported and loved.
Thank you for taking the time to read and even think about donating or participating. We appreciate all of you.
