Thank you for helping me reach my G-Dub Steps Walk ALS fundraising goal! Greg White (G-Dub) passed away January 11th, 2024 after a 2 year battle with the disease. Greg was not only a close friend, but was also my boss and mentor for 15 years. As a car guy himself, he took joy in my involvement with motorsports and often covered for me while I was away at rally events. This picture is of one of my favorite memories, seeing Greg’s smile after going on a ride-along with Kevin Kardos at an Oregon Trail Rally shakedown.
It’s no secret that ALS is a debilitating disease with no cure, few treatments, and a short life expectancy after diagnosis. This is why ALS Northwest is so important. In addition to spreading awareness and urgency to find a cure, they provide many resources to ALS patients and their families, often free of charge. Whether it’s counseling to better understand the ALS journey, doctor referrals, helping fight insurance companies for drug and test approvals, financial assistance, physical equipment loans like motorized wheelchairs, and even grief counseling after a loss.ALS Northwest’s depth of knowledge and support were incredibly helpful with each new challenge Greg faced.
The Walk ALS event raises funds to support those affected by ALS and helps spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
The past two years have brought several advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families
But it's barely scratched the surface.
With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
